How to Merge PDF Files for Free
Combine several PDFs into one document without uploading them anywhere.
Combining PDFs is useful for application packs, expense claims and contracts with schedules. Many online services upload your files to their servers. A browser-based merger avoids that.
Steps
- Open the Merge PDF tool.
- Select two or more PDF files in the order you want them to appear.
- Download the merged file.
Tips
- Rename files with numbers (01, 02, 03) so they sort correctly in the file picker.
- If a page is sideways, fix it with Rotate PDF first.
- Need only some pages? Use Split PDF to extract ranges such as 1-3,7.
Password-protected PDFs may need to be unlocked in the original application first.
Why merge in the browser?
Contracts, payslips and ID scans are sensitive. Merging them in your browser means the files stay on your device. You can confirm this by switching your internet connection off after the page loads: the tool still works.
Typical uses
- Joining a CV, cover letter and certificates into one application PDF.
- Combining receipts into one expense report for your finance team.
- Adding a signed page to the end of a contract.
- Building one document from scans taken page by page on a phone.
Troubleshooting
- The merged file is very large. Scanned pages are images. Reduce the scan resolution or compress it before merging.
- A page appears upside down. Rotate that file first, then merge again.
- The tool rejects a file. Encrypted PDFs cannot be read. Remove the password in the original application and try again.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a page or file limit? The limit is your device's memory. A few dozen ordinary documents merge comfortably on a modern laptop or phone.
Will bookmarks and links survive? Page content and internal links usually do, but document-level bookmarks from the source files may not carry over.
